Mesa County Commissioners congratulate Sheriff Hilkey

Sheriff Stan Hilkey will become the Executive Director of Colorado’s Department of Public Safety (CDPS) on Monday, June 16, 2014. The Mesa County Commissioners congratulate Sheriff Hilkey, and wish him well in his new role.

Elected three times to the office of Mesa County Sheriff, Stan Hilkey served the Mesa County communities with exemplary dedication and integrity. This year marks the twenty-eighth anniversary of Stan Hilkey’s public service in Mesa County Government.

“Mesa County citizens have been extremely fortunate having a Sheriff such as Stan Hilkey,” says Commissioner John Justman. Commissioner Rose Pugliese: “I know that he will do well, and the entire State will benefit from his experience, fairness and honesty.” “This is an exciting opportunity for Sheriff Hilkey,” adds Commissioner Steve Acquafresca.

The Board of County Commissioners learned of Sheriff Hilkey’s news via letter received in their office the morning of May 8, 2014.

The Commissioners will discuss the Sheriff’s letter and contemplate their next steps, during regular scheduled public hearing on Monday, May 12, 2014.
