Mesa County Government to Reorganize

Administrator Touts Sustainability, Efficiency and Innovation

Mesa County Government has begun work toward a three-year goal of creating a leaner, more innovative and more sustainable organization.  Six years of sluggish to declining economic activity and weakened tax revenue, caused a decline in property values and resulted in the longest period in memory where Mesa County wages were stagnant.  In the face of this reality, it is time to make changes.

The first step of this process is the consolidation of management for existing county directors with the immediate elimination of most director level positions. This will be followed by a new pay plan that properly values county employees. The compensation overhaul will continue through 2017.

The moves will reduce operational expenditures by approximately $4.5 million dollars while improving and innovating county services.

County Administrator Tom Fisher says, “We must create an organization that is sustainable financially, that puts proper value into the employees and encourages innovative ideas for the efficient delivery of services that we provide to the citizens of Mesa County.”

All elected office holders - all County leadership - will be empowered with the flexibility to determine appropriate compensation structures and appropriate level of staff, within their appropriated budgets.
