Grand Junction Regional Airport Authority seeking applications for At Large Commissioner

Grand Junction Regional Airport Authority is seeking applications for At Large Commissioner. The at-large member term is March 2013 – March 2017. This appointment is to fulfill the term. The Grand Junction Regional Airport Authority Board consists of three commissioners appointed by Mesa County Commissioners, three commissioners appointed by the Grand Junction City Council including one Council Member, and one at-large commissioner nominated by the other commissioners and appointed by the County Commissioners and City Council. The appointees must be residents and tax paying electors of Mesa County and/or Grand Junction as defined by Colorado Law.

Commissioners serve for a term of 4-years and the appointment is non-compensatory. The Board meets at 5:15 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month with additional committee meetings or workshops as needed.

You may apply for appointment to the Board by submitting a letter of interest accompanied by an application and a brief resume addressed to the Grand Junction Regional Airport Authority, c/o Business and Administration Manager, 800 Eagle Drive, Grand Junction, Colorado 81506. Please submit applications by 5:00pm on October 9, 2014.

Proclamation Presented for National Direct Support Professionals Recognition Week

September 7 - 13, 2014 designated as National Direct Support Professionals Recognition Week by the Mesa County Commissioners. During Monday's hearing, a Proclamation was presented to celebrate and recognize professionals, family members, friends and the community at large who provide support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, helping them to create productive and satisfying lives, and to live as independently as possible.

Accepting the Proclamation was Tamara Capp, Public Relations Manager, Mosaic of Western Colorado, and Doug Sorter, Director of Business Development, Strive.

Proclamations Presented for Suicide Prevention and National Recovery Month

September 2014 is Suicide Prevention and National Recovery Month. Mesa County Commissioners presented Proclamations today at Public Hearing, encouraging commitment, caring and collaboration by the Mesa County community to help those in need achieve and sustain long-term recovery and to implement preventative measures, recognize the signs of a problem and guide those in need to appropriate treatment.

Among those accepting the proclamations were:
  • Western Colorado Suicide Prevention Foundation Executive Director, Martha Graf, and President of the Board, Gene Starbuck
  • Criminal Justice Services Division Director, Matt Sullivan, Summit View Treatment Division Treatment Manager, Jason Talley, Substance Abuse Counselor-Lead, BillWimsatt, and Substance Abuse Counselor, Angela Morgan.

September 14, 2014: Star Spangled Banner Day

Today during Public Hearing, Mesa County Commissioners proclaimed September 14, 2014 as the Bicentennial (200 years) Commemoration of our National Anthem, the Star Spangled Banner. During the opening of the Public Hearing, the National Anthem was sung by Trish Yeager.

Those accepting the proclamation were:
  • The Colorado Society of the War of 1812, Mountain District 
  • The United States Daughters of 1812, Daniel Carpenter Chapter 
  • The Colorado Society Sons of the American Revolution, Grand Mesa Chapter 
  • The Colorado Daughters of the American Revolution, Mt. Garfield Chapter 

The 15 Star Flag will fly in front of the Mesa County Courthouse building on the following days to honor our national anthem and the flag that flew over Ft. McHenry:
