Commissioners comment on black bear management options

The Mesa County Commissioners today sent a letter to Colorado Parks and Wildlife with their comments on the Bookcliffs Area Bear Management Plan.

Parks and Wildlife is currently taking comments on options for managing the black bear population.

The Commissioners wrote:

"After reviewing the background information and recognizing the important economic contributions of hunting and wildlife management to Mesa County, we support any management alternative that will significantly:

  1. Reduce human/bear conflicts and costs for damages incurred to private property
  2. Decrease CPW staff time for relocations and other 'hands-on' management
  3. Increase hunting licenses and hunting opportunities."
