National Weather Service issues flash flood watch for West Salt Creek Landslide

A flash flood watch for the West Salt Creek Landslide is in effect until Monday afternoon, the National Weather Service in Grand Junction announced Wednesday evening.

The watch was triggered by Mesa County's announcement Wednesday morning that the pond that has formed on the Landslide is expected to spill sometime between today and Sunday.

People in the low-lying areas below the Landslide should stay alert to changing conditions. Evacuations may be necessary if conditions deteriorate.

A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop to cause flash flooding. Citizens are encouraged to plan now so they will be prepared in an emergency.
