The proclamation read, in part:
"...it is of the greatest importance that all citizens fully understand the provisions and principles contained in the Constitution in order to support, preserve and defend it against all enemies; and
"...celebrating the anniversary of the signing of the Constitution provides an opportunity for all Americans to realize the achievements of the Farmers of the Constitution and the rights, privileges and responsibilities it affords; and
"...the independence guaranteed to American citizens ... should be celebrated during Constitution Week, Sept. 17-23..."
A representative of the Daughters of the American Revolution accepted the proclamation. She is pictured above with Commissioner John Justman.
