Hotline for child abuse and neglect is back up and running

Colorado's hotline for child abuse and neglect was down Thursday afternoon and evening, due to a national CenturyLink service outage.

CenturyLink has informed Mesa County that toll-free service was restored to Colorado’s Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline (1-844-CO-4-KIDS) around 11 p.m. The outage, which impacted all toll-free numbers hosted by CenturyLink throughout the nation, resulted in callers to the hotline hearing erroneous, recorded messages that the number was no longer a working number.

Officials at Mesa County's Department of Human Services are pleased that this service is once again available throughout Mesa County and the state. The hotline, which was designed to provide an easy-to-remember phone number for reporting suspected child abuse and neglect, is an important tool for helping to keep the children of Colorado safe.
