Access to the pistol range will be interrupted, rifle range will still be accessible
Beginning June 19, the Mesa County Road and Bridge Department will start working on road improvements at the north end of 27 ¼ Road, north of H Road. The improvement site is located near the entrance of the Book Cliffs pistol range.
The access interruption, which will allow Mesa County to make safety improvements, is scheduled to last approximately two weeks. A 72-inch corrugated metal pipe, under the road near the entrance to the pistol range, has begun to deteriorate, and county engineers recommend it be replaced as soon as possible. The new pipe will be concrete reinforced.
Bureau of Land Management staff recommends the public use the rifle range entrance to access the Book Cliffs Shooting Range.
“The traffic restrictions are unfortunate but necessary,” Mesa County Public Works Director Pete Baier said. “We will be working diligently to minimize any inconvenience to drivers in the area.”
Mesa County appreciates the public’s patience during this necessary road improvement project.
