Mesa County Commissioners this morning proclaimed March as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month and encourage all residents to participate in celebrating the lives and contributions of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Doug Sorter of STRiVE states during the public hearing that the most efficient way to increase awareness of developmental disabilities is through active participation in community activities and openness to learn and acknowledge each individual’s contribution.

Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month aims to create awareness about developmental disabilities and to share the stories of individuals with a disability to show that a successful life is possible.
