Elevator will be out of service at old courthouse

The elevator at the old Mesa County Courthouse, 544 Rood Ave., will be replaced due to the inability to get replacement parts. Starting Dec. 2, 2019, there will be no elevator service for approximately nine weeks during the installation of the new unit.

During the replacement period, services will remain available — accommodations will be in place to address accessibility issues.

“The elevator is more than 30 years old, and parts are no longer available, so the entire unit must be replaced,” Mesa County Facilities Director Greg Linza said. “The elevator will be out of order during the installation process, which should conclude the later part of January 2020.”

Departments housed in the old courthouse include Administration, Assessor, Commissioners, County Attorney, GIS, Human Resources, Information Technology, Purchasing, Risk Management, Surveyor, and Treasurer. To view a list of services, visit

“The exterior elevator near the 6th Street entrance will remain in service,” Linza added. “That elevator takes people to the Surveyor’s Office and will not be affected by the replacement of the interior elevator.”

Mesa County is committed to addressing needs and services to serve the community while the elevator replacement takes place.
